A repeated reaction often has a history. We may withdraw before a difficult conversation, seek reassurance when uncertain, or assume criticism before listening to what was said.
The word ‘pattern’ helps us look at a sequence: situation, interpretation, feeling, action and consequence. It is more useful than deciding that an entire personality is fixed or broken.
Conscious Feeling invites reflection on what a pattern might be trying to protect and what it may now be costing. That reflection can lead to practical rehearsal, different communication or changes to the environment.
We work with patterns through reflection, imagery, perspective, meditation and rehearsal. The practice is to become familiar with a different response, then bring it into the moments where it matters.
Bring it into your day.
Choose a low-stakes pattern. Describe its trigger and usual response. Rehearse one alternative sentence or action you could try next time.
